The UrbanWaterSECURITY stands as a pivotal and urgent issue to be addressed for both the present and future generations. This year, the Italian Association for Environmental and Sanitary Engineering (ANDIS) in collaboration with the Sanitary Environmental Engineering Division (SEED) of the University of Salerno (Italy), the Advanced Institute of Water Industry at Kyungpook National University (Korea), and the Center for Membranes and Advanced Water Technology (CMAT) of Khalifa University in Abu Dhabi (UAE), is organizing the third edition of the UrbanWaterSECURITY Academy. The event will take place in Paestum (Salerno, Italy) from June 14 to June 16, 2024 at the exclusive Oleandi Resort.
UrbanWaterSECURITY will serve as an international platform for the exchange and discussion of crucial water-related topics, featuring presentations on nature-based solutions, cutting-edge technologies, and best practices, supported by an international academic team from leading institutions worldwide active in this field. Furthermore, the 2024 edition aims to foster cooperation, integration, and sustainable development in the Euro-Mediterranean and Asian regions on critical issues of Water and Security.Topics of the Academy
The impacts of urbanization on the urban water cycle and the management of associated health risks necessitate comprehensive strategies and measures. Health risks related to urban water systems and services encompass the microbiological and chemical contamination of urban waters, and the outbreak of waterborne diseases, largely due to inadequate water and sanitation in urban areas, along with the discharge and disposal of poorly treated or untreated industrial and domestic wastewater. The challenges posed by climate change further complicate these issues, necessitating alternative scenarios in urban water risk management. The UrbanWaterSECURITY Academy’s topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
The International Academy in UrbanWaterSECURITY is an intensive training program open to Master’s and PhD students, post-docs, and young researchers. Urban Water Security involves complex, so-called wicked, problems where traditional notions of causality and predictability may not hold. The critical importance of enhancing connections between science, policy, and society imposes new demands on candidates, who are expected to possess not only in-depth knowledge of their own discipline but also the ability to place this knowledge within a broader societal context. To address these challenges, the International Academy in UrbanWaterSECURITY has been established. The goal of the Academy is to foster a dynamic and intellectually stimulating research and development environment at the core of the institute. The Academy supports the candidates and the institute in addressing global challenges for sustainable water use. It is guided by a program committee that includes academic staff from leading institutions, which defines a program for each edition and selects esteemed Academy Members as instructors.
